Authentic, traceable, tested

To ensure you can trust that every jar is authentic New Zealand Mānuka honey, Tahi independently test in a certified laboratory for the unique Mānuka “markers” as defined by the New Zealand Government's Ministry for Primary Industries.

All Tahi Mānuka honeys carry the UMF™ rating (you’ll find it on the label), giving you independent assurance that our honey is authentic, fresh, pure and potent.

Certifications

Tahi is a member of the UMF™ Honey Association (UMFHA). The UMFHA trademark is the most comprehensive, independently-certified quality assurance system for New Zealand Mānuka honey. It certifies that the UMF™ grade, along with other compounds, have been independently tested. Our honey is also fully traceable, from our hives to your hands. License Number: UMFHA No. 2035

Understanding UMF™ / MGO gradings

Authentic New Zealand Mānuka Honey contains over 2,300 unique components, which contribute to its complex flavor and remarkable benefits. Not surprisingly, no other honey in the world undergoes such rigorous testing as New Zealand Mānuka Honey.

This includes the UMF™ Association's Four Factor Quality Assurance Test, which independently validates the potency, authenticity, freshness and purity of genuine Mānuka Honey and summarises them in a single figure (the UMF™ grading).

UMF™ Grading - Four Factor Quality Assurance test

1. Potency
(MGO)

MGO (methylglyoxal) has antibacterial properties and is an important measure of potency.

The higher the MGO rating, the stronger the concentration of methylglyoxal. The UMF™ quality mark ensures that Mānuka honey contains this special activity.

2. Authenticity
(Leptosperin)

Leptosperin is a natural compound found only in the nectar of Mānuka flowers – and research shows that its concentration increases as the UMF™ rating increases.

The presence of this powerful and unique compound verifies that Mānuka Honey is authentic.

3. Shelf Life
(DHA)

DHA (or Dihydroxyacetone) is a natural substance that slowly converts to MGO in healthy, living honey.

The higher the DHA content, the longer the MGO content in your Mānuka Honey will last – which is why Mānuka Honey must have more than 70mg/kg of DHA to be UMF™ certified.

4. Freshness
(HMF)

All of our Mānuka Honey is also tested for HMF (hydroxymethylfurfural).

This compound assures that honey has not been overheated or stored for too long, and is in the best condition to maintain the unique blend of natural properties found in genuine New Zealand Mānuka Honey.
